Drawing small sketches in a sketchbook allows me to understand a new place. When hiking a new mountain or visiting a new city, I bring a small sketchbook with me to document what I see. These sketches take anywhere from 60 seconds to 60 minutes depending on how much time I have. Since my urban studies in Rome where a sketchbook was required, I have tried to continue drawing as means of understanding details or spatial relationships.
